A lot is happening for the Greater Southern Waterfront creating a buzz around the island nation. The Greater Southern Waterfront is designated as a residential, commercial and recreational hub along Singapore’s southern coast as first mentioned by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in 2019, it will be a live-work-play locale.

This will be done by developing more private and public housing options with waterfront promenades, more offices to provide better job opportunities and more open spaces with recreational activities and entertainment for residents.

Redevelopment plans include land that will be available when port operator PSA’s terminals at Tanjong Pagar, Keppel and Brani move to Tuas by 2027, as well as Pasir Panjang terminal by 2040. The total land size is 2,000ha area which is twice the size of Punggol.

Earlier this month, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (“MPA”) announced during the Singapore Maritime Week that a new 9,000 square metre integrated hub called The Waves shall be ready by the last quarter of 2025. The Waves which stands for Waterfront for All, innoVation, Enterprise and Sustainability will have berths from which the public can view testing and showcases of green ships and shall house marine technology companies. There will be a sky terrace for food and beverage outlets for visitors.

With such exciting news, more look towards the residential plans for the Greater Southern Waterfront. The site where Keppel Club currently stands, 48-hectares of land, will be housing a new residential development comprising over 9,000 units, 6,000 of which is for public housing flats and another 3,000 for private residential units. The Club’s lease ended on 31st December 2021 and was extended to 31st March 2022.

We can imagine how highly sought after the first Built-To-Order (BTO) Housing & Development Board (HDB) flats will be. It is scheduled to be launched within the next 3 years. As yet, no plans or timeframe has been announced as to when the land will be parcelled out for tender for private residential development but this is an area to set your sights on so keep an ear out for any upcoming news in order not to miss out.
